On the banks of the peaceful Nasser lake, Abu Simbel temple majestically nestled as a shining symbol from great pharaonic Egypt. From first sight, you will be dazzled by the gigantic statues of king Ramses II that are carved out of rock and stand still to our day. Notice the brilliantly carved smaller statues that decorate the temple’s facades.
Learn about the temple’s history and its critical rescuing made by UNESCO in 1964, in which two massive statues were transferred 200 meters away from the lake to avoid the risk of flood.
Walk along the passageway inside to see thrilling collections of artifacts, statues, and magnificent murals telling the achievements of Ramses II including his historical battle of Kadesh. At the end of this passageway, you will see the iconic Ramses statue in the holy of holies where the sun enlightens his face only twice a year, one on the day he was born, and the other one when he was coronated.
